Yes, everyone knows that Kerry went home with the Sam Maguire again. But while the lads were kicking away in Croke Park, a Corkwoman was swimming her way into the record books by becoming the first Irish person ever to swim the English Channel both ways.

Lisa Cummins, from Blackrock, Cork, set out on Saturday from Dover and after swimming to Calais, France, just turned around to swim all the way back — for her favourite charities. She swam for 35 hours and 36 minutes without getting out of the water. That is some achievement!

Lisa is a post-graduate student in UCC and is also the Secretary of Mahon Parish Assembly. So she had science and God on her side — not to mind great determination and family and friends.

You can see more on her own blog and it’s not too late to sponsor here so give a little to the charities which she swam for.
