On Friday, the 14th of August, 2018, the tree of life in the Ballineen area lost one of its limbs as the local Post Office closed for the last time.

But the life-blood of the community still flowed and soothed the loss with support and camaraderie, jokes and memories, tea and sandwiches, wine and closing transactions.

This is a mini-photo essay in homage of what was. It is without, yet laden with, people.

Where the letters were sorted each morning.
Life goes on as the Post Office stands still.

The key about to turn.

A closing word from the owner.
Neighbours brought apple tarts and more.
Each area of the locality has its own route for the postal delivery.
